Abstract

The objectives of this paper are three-fold: first to provide a conceptual framework of a multi-sectoral model for agricultural sector in Malaysia MSMAS. Second to highlight some preliminary findings of the input-output and econometric models of the selected sub-sectors: palm oil rubber cocoa paddy and forestry - which are the major sub- components of MSMAS. Third to analyse the implications of these findings on the proposed MSMAS in terms of conceptual and theoretical adequacies as well as the methodological accordance. In particular attention is given to the feasibility as well as the theoretical considerations in establishing the linkages between sub-sectors in the proposed MSMAS system. The conceptual framework is derived from the inter-dependencies and structural relationship between the sub-sectors in competing for the common pool of resources: land labour and capital. The findings of the input - output and econometric models provide the input and coefficients to be fed into the MSMAS scheme.
