Abstract
Small- and medium-sized industries SMSIs played a major role in the socio-economic development of countries in the Asia-Pacific region. However SMSIs needed to be modernized to be able to compete effectively in international markets. They needed technological information but generally SMSIs suffered from serious information handicaps. These were manifested in their inability to recognize and define their information needs identify sources of information and decide on issues of technological choices and adaptation. The Technonet experience was cited as an example of a delivery mechanism that addresses itself to SMSI needs.
