Abstract

Controlled-release formulations CRF of diuron were prepared using sodium alginate as a matrice and agricultural by-products empty fruit bunch EFB sawdust SAW and paddy husk PH as inert materials. The release rates of diuron from the agricultural by-product CRF in distilled water were determined and compared with alginate-kaolin controlled-release formulation by chemical assay. The release of diuron of the CRF reached maximum 20 days following placement in distilled water and maintained the same rate up to 60 days. The alginate-kaolin formulation released more diuron compared with the agricultural by-product formulations. Evaluation ofefficacy on the germination of Diodia ocimifolia showed that the CRF gave significantly better control than the conventional formulation at 2 months after treatment.
