Abstract

Joint evaluations using glyphosate for palm poisoning were conducted by Asiatic Development Berhad and Monsanto Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. Various rates of glyphosate were compared to conventional paraquat for poisoning palms due for replanting in an estate near Batu Pabat Johor. Results showed glyphosate 41 wlw Roundup at tested rates are as effective and cheaper than paraquat but required a longer period for ;kill; to be completed. Another treatment MaN 20058 i.e. glyphosate 54 wI w without surfactant was an equally effective alternative for palm poisoning. Evaluation on semicommercial scale and the promising results of glyphosate are hereby discussed.
