Abstract
The objectives of this experiment are to determine intra and inter population genetic diversity of TxP family and tissue culture clones of Pisifera palm collections originated from Nigeria that have been used as pollen sources for producing commercial DxP oil palm by PT Sampoerna Agro Tbk. In this experiment the genetic diversity was assessed using 12 loci of oil palm specific SSR markers. Results of the experiment indicated that out of 12 SSR marker loci evaluated two loci were monomorphic in all Pisifera palms evaluated while 10 loci were polymorphic. The average alele numbers of the marker in the Pisifera populations were 3.7 aleles per locus. Out of six different clonal populations of Pisifera palm analysis mostly showed uniform alele profiles in almost all SSR marker loci tested indicating the clonal nature of the population members. However one or two individuals within three difftrent clones of Pisifera populations showed different alele profiles than that of the rest indicating possibilities of either existance of somaclonal variation or mislabelled materials. Based on the clustering analysis slightly high inter population genetic diversity among different clones of Pisifera palm was observed. Results of the experiment also indicated the existence of high genetic diversity among individuals within each population intra population genetic diversity and among population inter population genetic diversity. Based on 12 loci of SSR markers data the Pisifera clones were shown to have high similarity to a number of individual ofthe TxP Pisifera populations.
