Abstract

Dereplication of the NO inhibitory fractions of the Melicope ptelefolia using high performance liquid chromatography HPLC-diode array detector DAD-mass spectrometry MS has identified seven main constituents. The compounds were identified as kokusaginine 1 compound 2 possibly kokusagine 2a or 5methoxymaculine 2b 2 4 6-trihydroxy-3-prenylacetophenone 3 2 4 6 trihydroxy-3-geranylacetophenone 4 2 4 6-trihydroxy-3geranylgeranylacetophenone 5 3-4-0-3 7-dimethyl-2 6-octadienylphenyl-2-propenoic acid 6 and 2 4 6-trihydroxy-3-farnesylgeranylacetophenone 7. While the identity of 1 4 and 6 were unequivocally confirmed by isolation and spectroscopic evidences the identification of the other compounds are tentative based on their MS and MS/MS data. Compound 4 is a new natural product while compounds 5 and 7 are tentatively new.
