Abstract
The first Vanilla cultivation in Malaysia was established as an experimental plot at MARDI Lower Perak on coastal clay soil of Peninsula Malaysia. The first crops planted in 1993 as an intercropped under 50 year-old coconuts produced fruits in 1996. The well managed crops yield about 1 050 kg/ha and 1 750 kg/ha fresh bean in the fourth and fifth year respectively. This yield could provide income at RM 1 310 and RM2 190 per hectre per month in the fourth and fifth year at the price of RM15.00/kg fresh bean. The advantageous conditions of climate soil condition and vast area of land available in this country could bring good income to Malaysian farmers.
