Abstract

In-vitro zygotic embryo culture of wild banana significantly increased the germination compared to greenhouse grown seeds. The swelling of haustorium and meristematic tissues of the embryos marked in-vitro germination of the culture embryos. Shoot primordia emerged first from the meristematic tissue followed by the emergence of the root primordia. But the radicle developed into roots much earlier than the emergence of the shoot. The position of the two primordia appeared to show that the epicotyl axis was at an angle of 90 in relation to the radicle-hypocotyI axis.
