Abstract

In vitro gas production method was used to investigate the effect of four lactic acid bacteria LAB isolated from Mulberry silage on volatile fatty acid VFA production by rumen microorganisms using grass as substrate Total gas and VFA productions in the treatments containing LAB were significantly higher than the control. Production of acetic acid was the main VFA beside propionate butyrate iso butyrate valerate and iso valerate affected by the addition of LAB p0.01.. Among the LAB Lactobacillus acidipiscis SL44 exhibited the highest ability for enhancement of the VFA production in the rumen liquid.
