Abstract

In this study the antioxidant properties of Lantana camara root stem leaf flower and fruit extract were evaluated through DPPH 2 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical-scavenging activity and xanthine oxidase inhibition assay. L. camara leaf revealed the best antioxidant property presenting much lower IC‚0 values 16.02 0.94 g/ml for DPPH assay and 17.541.87 g/ml for xanthine oxidase assay. Furthermore the highest antioxidant contents polyphenols were found for this extract 245.50 3.54 mg GAEs/g extract. This study suggests that possible mechanism of antioxidant activity of methanolic extracts of this plant may be due to free radical-scavenging which may be due to the presence of polyphenols in the extracts.
