Abstract
A machine called SILAGER was developed to enhance silage production using plastic drums for large-scale production. The usefulness of the machine was studied in comparison with the conventional manual method of drum ensiling. It enabled effective compaction easy lid closure and efficient extraction of residual air from the drum after sealing. Benefits in terms of 63.3 increase in quantity ensiled 56.6 less time taken to ensile 130 increase in production ensiling rate and 17.5 lower cost of production of silage are derived from the use of the SILAGER. Better quality. in terms pH 3.87 as compared to pH 4.49 respectively was also obtained in the silage produced using the SILAGER as compared to that made through the conventional manual method.
