Abstract

A survey was conducted by MPOB in 2009-2010 to know the status of adoption of technologies on controlling and managing of the basal stem rot BSR disease in Malaysian oil palm estates in Peninsular. Sabah and Sarawak. Some control of BSR disease in existing plantings and at replanting have been achieved and implemented in several oil palm plantations government agencies and independent estates. In existing planting removal of diseased palms 289 estates; 9 101 ha for destroying the inoculum of Ganoderma fungicide hexaconazole 228 estates 2.150 ha soil mounding 138 estates: 8 236 ha and surgery 7 estates: 312 ha for prolonging life of infected oil palms had been adopted. At replanting the main control strategy is completely sanitation by removal of all old oil palm stands 131 estates; 40 359 ha or partial sanitation by removal of only old oil palm stands confirmed infected with Ganoderma disease 159 estates: 11 301 ha using excavator. It was widely practiced in Johor Sabah and Perak. The biocontrol agents and biofertilizers have been applied to control Ganoderma disease in existing planting and also at replanting. Some estates felt that biocontrol agents for Ganoderma disease such as Trichoderma bacteria mycorrhiza and biofertilizers will gain more important in the coming year.
