Abstract
Traditional knowledge TK is a combination of ancient indigenous practices and techniques i.e. folk songs dances carvings etc. locally adapted and distinctive to a community in a particular area. Today TK has gained increasing recognition in forest management and biodiversity conservation particularly identification of valuable genetic resources and sustainable forest management. Realizing the importance of TK a study was carried out to document the knowledge and use of medicinal and aromatic plants by the Semai community in Kg. Ulu Geroh Gopeng Perak. The aim of this paper is to share the knowledge of medicinal and aromatic plants used by the Orang Asli Semai in Kg. Ulu Geroh. The study also assesses the importance and extent of the use of medicinal and aromatic plants. Information was obtained through household and socio-economic survey conducted on 61 respondents. A total of 83 plants were documented. The Orang Asli Semai use a variety of plant parts such as roots bark extracts leaf poultices and juice in the preparation of their traditional medication.
