Abstract

A study of the physical properties of 375 samples from 91 soil profiles in Malaysia revealed that variation in texture has little influence on the water supply curves of Oxisols. The reverse is true for Inceptisols whereas the Ultisols are the intermediate. Further there is a strong correlation between moisture content at 15 bar tension and clay content for Inceptisols and Ultisols but not quite so for Oxisols. A factor of 1.9 was found to be more appropriate for estimating clay content from percent water at 15 bar tension than a factor of 2.5.
