Abstract
A review on the use of palm oil palm oil products and esters of vegetable oils as diesel fuel is presented. A study on the laboratory and mini-pilot plant preparation of methyl esters from crude palm oil and crude palm stearin has been successfully carried out. Work on isolation and recovery on minor components such as tocopherol Vitamin E sterol and B-carotene pro-Vitamin A from methyl esters residue is also being looked into. Preliminary evaluation of palm oil methyl esters has been initiated based on laboratory analyses testing on stationary engine Ricardo E6/U and field testing on vehicles. Preliminary techno-economic evaluation has been attempted
