Appanah S., . (1987) Is there a need to do GCL girdling and climber cutting in Malaysian forests now. [Proceedings Paper]
Abstract
Girdling of weed trees and cutting of woody climbers called GCL operations have remained the principal silvicultural treatments for Malaysian forests for a long time. In this paper the GCL practice is reviewed in context with the current silvicultural system of forest management in Malaysia. Necessary modifications to the practice are recommended to enhance its value or to abandon it where its benefits do not vindicate the costs.
