Abstract
The paper discusses the agricultural development project in the uplands of northern Thailand particularly the problems of cropping systems in these areas. These problems include soil degradation due to traditional farming system low soil moisture holding capacity and high soil erosion hazard. Soil conservation measures that have been practiced are also discussed.
