Abstract

Culture of all-male all-female and mixed-sex batches of Oreochromis niloticus fed with 32 percent crude protein pellets was carried out in static ponds. Fish from the all-male culture had the fastest growth rate with a daily weight gain of only 2.39 g/day. The growth rate of the males from the all-made pond was 1.7 times that of the females from the all-female pond. Breeding activities tend to have a negative effect on the growth rate of the males compared to that of the females. The feed conversion was higher in the breeding ponds compared to that in the non-breeding mono-sex culture ponds.
