Abstract

Since last one decade the use of pesticide has increased considerably but the users' knowledge about the pesticides has not increased with similar pace. A survey of 257 farmers in 7 districts of Nepal showed that 35 pesticides including insecticides herbicides fungicides and rodenticides belonging to chlorinated hydrocarbons cyclodines organophosphates and carbamates were used in 173.3 litres liquid and 7417 kg powder/dust. However metacid methyl parathion Bayer and gamaxine Lindane constituted the major portion of the liquid 41.5percent and solid 77.8percent respectively. Majority of the farmers in kathmandu concluded that without using pesticides the vegetable can not be grown
