Optimizing starch granule extraction using a leaching prototype machine

Abstract

Investigation on the operation of a prototype machine for processing sago has shown that sago starch can be leached from sago pith by the machine. It can extract at an average of 13 percent of the input raw materials. By recycling the waste products through the drum filters yield increases can be as high as 1.2 percent to 4.4 percent. Starch losses in the waste products are much lower compared to that experienced by existing factories. The dried products obtained show some coloration which is attributed to the presence of impurities and effects of fermentation
