Abstract

The successful introduction of a new fruit to world markets depend very much on the attitude of growers marketing arrangements and promotional activities. All the above factors have contributed to export sales of kiwifruit that are increasing from 200 000 trays 400 tonnes in 1970 to 4 0 000 trays 14 000 tonnes in 1979. None 1 : export tray weight 3.6 kg approximately 8 lbs. In order to develop marketing strategies of kiwifruit the New Zealand Kiwifruit Marketing Authority was established in 1979. The New Zealand government had granted growers a statutory power to control the industry composition and the function of the authority. This control affects the markets the growers the exporters and the industry at large. The trend of the New Zealand kiwifruit industry which declined from a boom period to a slump was due to several reasons such as the introduction of a single desk marketing system. To revamp this situation certain measures on the present system have to be taken
