Abstract
Four major explorations made between Fabruary 1992 to February 1993 resulted in the collection of 165 accessions of Vigna trinervia from 38 different localities 17 accessions of V. reflexo-pilosa from seven localities and only one accession of V. minima. Isozyme analyses for 6-phophogluconate dehydrogenase 6PGHD and glutamate oxalacetate transaminase GOT made it possible to postulate that V. reflexo-pilosa a tetraploid may be derived from interspecific hybridization between V. trinevia and V. minima. Isozyme analyses based on leucine amino peptidase LAP and shikimate dehydrogenase SDH on V. trinervia indicated that this species harbour large genetic variations. SDS-PAGE on seed proteins from selected but diverse populations enable them to be grouped into three banding patterns.
