Abstract

The acute toxicity of cadmium copper iron and zinc to postlarval tropical marine prawn Penaeus monodon in relation to salinity was studied. Metal toxicity increased with decreasing salinity. The order of toxicity was CdFeZnCu. Use of an arbitrary application factor AF of 0.01 provided estimates of the safe concentrations for the metals of 4.1-23.4 ug/L Cd 11-33.7 ug/L Cu and 6.3-22 ug/L Zn. Estimated safe concentrations for Fe based on an AF of 0.1 were 58-275 ug/L
