Abstract

Five anthraquinones have been prepared by Friedel-Craft acylation reaction using anhydrous aluminum chloride as Lewis acid. Phthalic anhydride and benzene derivatives are used as starting materials for this investigation. The five prepared anthraquinones are : 1-hydroxy-2-methyl anthraquinone 1 2-hydroxy-l-methyl anthraquinone 2 2-hydroxy-3-methyl anthraquinone 3 1-hydroxy-4-methyl anthraquinone 4 and 1 3-dihydroxy-2-methyl anthraquinone 5 . The best condition for creating anthraquinone back-bone using Friedel-Craft acylation reaction is established.
