Abstract

Cement-bonded boards were made from coconut trunk excelsior and coir fiber at 55/45 60/40 70/30 cement-fiber ratio by weight; 450 500 550 600 650 kg/m board densities in 10 30 and 50 mm board thickness. Stick test on the coconut trunk was also conducted. Board properties such as modulus of rupture water absorption and thickness swelling were tested following the PSA wood wool cementboard standards. Results showed that strong cement-bonded boards may be obtained for 10 mm 30 mm and 50 mm board thicknesses at board densities of 450 to 650 kg/m at cement proportion equal to or greater than 60. The butt and mid-portions of the coconut trunk showed high pulling force values.
