Abstract
Product acceptability is one of the steps in product making that is essential which leads to a successful marketing of the product. Therefore cocoa tannin gel toothpaste as a new product was evaluated by twenty panelists in order to study the product acceptability on five attributes of interest i.e. mint flavour foaming odour colour appeal and texture of gel and the results were used to improve the product formulation. The scale of one to five was used to represent the attributes. The panelists satisfied with the product during the first session. Second session was carried out after the improvement has been made and compared with the initial session. ANOVA results has shown that three out of five attributes gave significant difference at P less than 0.05 of the product acceptability before and after the improvement of the toothpaste formulation. The product also had shown an increment on the overall acceptability where the final formulation with viscosity and pH of 35 400 cp and pH7 respectively was more acceptable compared to the initial formulation viscosity of 29 400 cp and pH9.
