Abstract
This paper provides the first preliminary overview of zingiberaceous species in Melalap. Gingers were collected from 26 to 30 January 2004 at various localities including Kallang Waterfalls. Sixteen species from seven genera were recorded. This represented 36 of the total gingers species in Crocker Range. Four of these Alpinia cf. aquatica Amomum uliginosum and Hornstedtia havilandii are expected new record for the Crocker Range. Further two species of Plagiostachys i.e. P. albiflora and P. strobilifera showed a variance in the genus. A checklist of zingiberaceous species in Melalap was provided together with notes on their habitat and distribution.
