Abstract

A mini tractor fitted with FFB grabbers add hi-lift trailers MTG to evacuate FFB and direct loading on to main line/shunting trailers was considered the most promising means of mechanizing in-field FFB collection. This method was introduces in one of our estate in Pahang covering almost the entire area of 2343.7 hectares. The system which has been running since 1996 is being progressively improved to achieve higher efficiency. The experience so far shows that with the MTG system and reorganization of job functions the labour requirement for harvesting and FFB evacuation can be reduced by 34. A lower number of workers reduces infrastructure requirements and fringe benefits. Elimination of double handling reduces collection costs and improves crop quality.
