Nenny Harijani, . (2009) The effect of bacteriocin to the reduction of microbes in subclinical mastitis of dairy cattle. [Proceedings Paper]
Abstract
The main objective of this study was to study the effect of bacteriocin produced by Lactic Acid Bacteria LAB as anti microbial which could inhibit microbes in subclinical mastitis of dairy cattle. The result of this study showed that bacteriocin produced by LAB which was isolated from beef cattle intestine could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus Streptococcus agalactiae and Escherichia coll which was indicated by the formation of clear zone surrounding the colonies on Brain Heart Infusion Agar plate. The bacteriocin was also heat stable up to 100'C for 15 minutes. It was inactivated by proteolytic enzyme trypsin and pepsin. The product of LAB bacteriocin was confirmed as Pediococcus pentosaceus by 16's RNA sequencing. The strain was coccoid and gram positive. Moreover bacteriocin could ferment glucose maltose mannose and sucrose. Bacteriocin found in this study was novel which could be used as a treatment for subclinical mastitis of dairy cattle.
