C. Y. Ling, . and H. C. Chen, . and S. Sumita, . (2009) A preliminary observation on changes in daily behavioural activities following surgery in ram lambs. [Proceedings Paper]
Abstract
Locomotor and maintenance behavioural changes of five ram lambs before and after two surgical procedures were evaluated. There was significant behavioural variation between the individual animals during the observation periods. Preliminary results suggested that the frequency of locomotor activity i.e. standing and rate of ambulation was affected by two surgical procedures. However maintenance behaviour remained unaltered before and after the surgical interventions. Further studies incorporating a larger sample size may be required to determine if these behavioural measures may be utilised as potential indicators of pain following invasive surgical procedures.
