Abstract

Parks in Sabah were previously established under the National Parks Ordinance 1962. A statutory body known as the Board of Trustees of Sabah Parks controls the park system. The State and Federal Governments provide funding in addition to the revenue generated from activities within the parks. Six parks had been established with a total area of 263 976 ha. The Parks Enactment 1984 forms an important legislation for controlling the parks. Enforcement of the Parks Enactment control of exotic species and research are the main management activities of the parks. Accommodations and other tourist facilities are provided but had been privatised since April 1998.
