Abstract

All manner of models are used to describe simulate extrapolate and ultimately understand the functions of dynamic systems. These sort of models are usually based on a mathematical foundation that can be difficult to manipulate especially to non-mathematical based scientists. In this paper we discuss the use of a MATLAB toolbox SIMULINK in system modelling using block diagrams found in the software scientists are able to perform meaningful simulation of the system without writing extensive numerical code. Furthermore we are proposing the use of this software in building a graphical analogue of the ECOBAS models database. We give a simple example from ecology to illustrate our point.
