Abstract

Urea mixed with peat and compacted into pellets was determined for its ammonia volatilisation loss when applied to soils. Increasing in the peat fraction in the pellets mixture resulted in the decrease of the loss. The loss was 31 with urea-alone pellets and decreased to 10 with urea 30 peat pellets. Minimisation of ammonia volatilization loss was found to be related to the high H buffering and NH4 adsorption in the microsites within the urea peat pellets.
