Abstract

The purpose of this study was to design a fertigation system which could be used for applying N to experimental plots. It was designed to provide uniform distribution of water N or both to plots of respective treatments. The system was based on the one developed by Agricultural Research Institute in Cyprus Papadopoulus and Eliades 1987 with minor modification so as to be applicable for crops grown under rainshelters. The system was tested for its uniformity in distributing water and N to plots of respective treatments. Emission uniformity of the system design is 95.6 which is efficient in delivering water uniformly to all treatments plots. Nitrogen distribution among treatments plot is also uniform based on the concentrations of NO subscript 3-N in the irrigation water samples collected randomly from emitters on lateral lines. The system design therefore can be used for uniform application of water and N at different concentrations to the crops.
