Abstract
Historically manuring made up 45 of mature up keep costs on BAL estates. This was reduced to 20-30 through a better understanding of the major soil types on which cocoa is grown monitoring of the nutrient status through soil analysis a critical assessment of data from fertilizer trials and the use of straight fertilizers.Fertilizer recommendations are based on soil analysis for P K and lime. The current soil critical values are 15ppm available P Bray 2 0.3 me exchangeable K and a pH of 5.5.Recommendations for N are based on visual assessment of canopy vigour and crop load.
