Abstract

The orchid breeding programme at the Singapore Botanic Gardens was initiated more than 70 years ago by Professor R.E. Holttum. His first hybrid Spathoglottis Primrose flowered in 1931. To date the garden has registered some 400 hybrids. Many new and exciting hybrids were made made recently and additional ones are yet to come as we enter the new millennium.
