Buanong M., . and Kanlayanarat S., . (2005) Physiological changes of Dendrobium Sonia Bom 17 after gamma irradiation. [Proceedings Paper]
Abstract
The physiological changes of Dendrobium Sonia Bom 17 cut flowers after gamma irradiation at 0 control 1 1.5 and 2.0 kGy were determined in terms of respiration rate ethylene production and reducing sugar content. Appearance quality and vase life of the flowers were also measured. Irradiation with 2.0 kGy caused the highest rate of respiration and ethylene production and consequently shortest vase life of only 5 days as compared to the control which lasted for 3 days. Irradiation increased reducing sugar content inhibited opening of flower buds and caused open flowers to discolour and fall off rapidly.
