Abstract
The 7 classes of forest reserves in Sabah totalling about 3.5 mil ha are collectively referred to as the Permanent Forest Estate PFE. This 3 year project aims to assess the conservation areas within the PFE in terms of their vegetation quality conservation values and management aspects with the ultimate aim of ensuring that an effective state-wide forest conservation strategy is put in place. The main output of the project will be a computerised information system of the conservation areas assessed in a readily accessible form. Recommendations for forest conservation will be forwarded to the State Government.
