Peat: its significance as climate record

Citation

Kamaludin Hassan, . (2005) Peat: its significance as climate record. [Proceedings Paper]

Abstract

Peat is formed by the accumulation of decayed plant matter in naturally low oxygen and highly acidic areas. Throughout the geological past it is known that peat had been accumulating on and off. The interrupted accumulations reflect the prevailing surrounding environmental changes that had affected the nature of peat formation. The record from our region and its interpretation is here discussed and deliberated.
