Abstract

A new liquid crystalline diol 3.3-dimethoxy-4 4 di 6-hydroxyhexoxy -N- benzylidene-o- Tolidine I was confirmed by elemental analysis CHN 1H-NMR FTIR UV and Mass spectroscopies. Polyurethanes I a-c were prepared by reacting of this diol I with commercial diisocyanates such as hexamethylene diisocyanate HDI a Methylene- 4 4- diphenyl diisocyanate MDI b and Toluene-2 4 -diisocyanate TDI c. Polyurethanes were investigated by 1H-NMR FTIR UV and CHN analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis TGA differential scanning calorimetry DSC wide-angle X-ray diffraction WAXD and polarizing light microscope techniques have been used to characterize thermal properties ceystallinity and phase behaviour of diol I and polyurethanes I a-c. Diol I exhibits enantiotropic nematic phase.
