Abstract
A study on the effect of four shade levels on growth of mint was conducted. Plants produced more branches and leaves under full sunlight. The total leaf area was highest under 30 shade. Consequently the shaded plants had greater leaf area specific as compared to plants under full sunlight. The leaf mass however was higher at higher light levels. The root and shoot ratio of plants grown under full sunlight was higher than those grown under shades. The leaves of plants grown under shades were greener and contained higher amount of potassium calcium and magnesium. The results suggested that mint could be planted under partly shaded conditions to produce tender big and dark green leaves and higher mineral content.
