Abstract

Starfruit (Averrhoa carambola) plants were grown in different root zone volumes i.e 5.17 (control) 3.36 and 1.98 m strength 3 under field conditions. Root confinement to 3.36 m strength 3 resulted in suppressed plant growth as compared with the control plants. Reduction in leaf production and expansion contributed to an overall decrease in shoot growth of confined root plants. Earliness of flowering was observed in plants grown in smaller root zone volume. The changes in leaf water potential in confined root plants vary according to the water availability. Higher stomatal resistance was observed on plants grown in confined root plants
