Abstract
The impact of forest plantation development on the population and diversity geometrid moths (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) in Malaysia. The impact on the geometrid moth population and diversity resulting from the creation of two different types of plantation indigenous and fast-growing exotic is discussed and compared with and the indigenous plantation was found to support the highest geometrid moth diversity as indicated by Williams alpha diversity index. The next highest in geometrid diversity was the fat-growing exotic plantation planted wih Gmelina arborea followed by those of Paraserianthes falcataria and Acacia mangium. In the context of conservation the creation of forest plantations especially those planted with indigenous tree species may help in retaining as well as supporting some moth species hence adding to the existing insect diversity.
