Abstract

To identify the animal species which take fruits from the ground we placed and automatic camera system under a tree form which fruits were falling in Pasoh Forest Reserve. Of 2 738 picture obtained showing species visiting the tree for fruit 93.3 percent were mammals consisting of 25 species and others were birds (8 species) and reptiles (2 species). The pigtailed macaque long-tailed porcupine long-tailed giant rat three-striped ground squirrel red spiny rat banded leaf monkey and common porcupine were dominant visitors accounting for 89.3 percent of all pictures of mammals. Activity patterns of the major mammals bases on visiting time deduced from the pictures were examined. Effects of frugivory of animals on mortality of seeds and dispersal of seeds are discussed.
