Abstract
Soil application of calcium nitrate suppressed development of basal stem rot of oil palm seedlings. Severity of disease was reduced by 25-30 per cent based on foliar symptoms number of fruiting bodies produced and number of lesioned roots. Calcium nitrate did not reduce mycelial growth of the pathogen suggesting that the effect of calcium in reducing infection is indirect probably due to the formation of cell wall components resistant to degradation by Ganoderma.
