Abstract
Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre or locally known as mempari is a common leguminous shade and landscape tree in Peninsular Malaysia. It is widely planted in the campus of Universiti Putra Malaysia. In March to May 1995 these trees were attacked by Hasora chromus chromus (Cramer) (Lepodoptera:Hesperiidae). The outbreak resulted in a severe defoliation to many trees. Hasora chromos chromus is a medium-sized skipper. The egg hemispherical in shape is about 0.5 mm in diameter. The larva grows to 30 mm long through five instars in 10 days. It pupates in a loosely folded leaf for about 9 days. Even though the skipper is less affected by arthropod natural enemies the larvae and the pupae are greatly consumed by birds.
