Abstract
Leaf eating caterpillars especially the bagworms and nettle caterpillars are occasional pests of oil palm plantation. The triggering of outbreak would result in severe defoliation leading to crop loss. For mature palms trunk injection using systemic chemical remain a viable option to control these destructive pests. There are many advantages of trunk injection the main one being its compatability with IPM practices. As this technique is target specific natural predators are spared and have the opportunity to proliferate. The right choice of chemical and equipments using the correct trunk injection technique coupled with the understanding of resistance management strategy would contribute to more effective control and efficiency.
