Abstract

Results from an experiment conducted over three seasons to compare the efficiency of selected herbicides with that of handweeding under different methods of rice planting were discussed. Several herbicides were tested. Different methods of crop establishment those on broadcasting row-sowing and transplanting were compared. Under optimum cultural practices including that of adequate weed control some of the direct-seeded crops were able to yield comparatively well if not higher than those being transplanted. Most of the herbicides tested had exhibited a reasonably good control of rice-field weeds. Besides being time consuming handweeding was found inefficient in broadcast
