Abstract
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was applied to the diagnosis of rice tungro. ELISA was able to separately detect the two tungro-associated viruses - rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) and rice tungro spherical virus (RTSV) in infected plants. RTBV and RTSV were detected in sap extracts of 40-50-day old infected plants up to a dilution of 1/1024 and 1/1512 respectively in rice seedlings as early as two days after inoculation and in batches of 500 healthy seedlings mixed with one infected seedling. In all instances RTBV was more readily detected than RTSV. The presence of other rice vival antigens did not affect the detection of RTBV or RTSV by ELISA
