Abstract

Different degrees of land preparation affected the growth performance of sugarcane variety Ragnar in the plant crop. The yield data under experimental conditions at Gajah Mati suggested that no further land preparation was needed other than chemical spraying to remove weeds. This was followed by furrowing or mininum soil disturbance to a certain degree for good cane yield when compared with the conventional tillage practices. These preliminary findings indicated that the reduction of the conventional tillage practices to a mere single ploughing and rototilling followed by furrowing was a better alternative for sugarcane seed bed preparation
